An orangutan grips the bars of the cage he is confined in at a zoo in Thailand. He lives on the top floor of a shopping mall in the centre of Bangkok as part of Pata Zoo - one of the world’s most controversial venues. He lives alone in a barren concrete enclosure next to his mother, where he can exhibit few if any, natural behaviours. The zoo has been in the media spotlight for over a decade but shows no signs of closing - actually, the opposite, with the construction of a new restaurant and coffee shop area in the zoo reportedly underway.
